Radioactive Contaminated Soil Classification System

  • In order to permanently dispose of radioactive waste or dispose of it itself, the nuclear stock inventory evaluation in the waste should be preceded. Soil and concrete wastes that occur when nuclear power plants are dismantled are massive, and most of the radiation concentrations appear from deregulation level to low level. To determine whether to deregulation of these wastes, a technology to measure the radioactivity level at the lowest level is required when analyzing the radioactivity concentration. Conventional measurement methods are a pollution monitoring device using a detector with a large size, and a detector with a high detection efficiency, and a nuclear stock inventory measuring device using a detector with a low detection efficiency and a difficult large size. This product can simultaneously implement pollution monitoring and nuclear stock evaluation of waste generated in large amounts by complementing defects of each detector using NaI(Tl) and PVT detector at the same time.

    System Features (general measurement mode)

    Contents Description
    External Size 920 x 2,690 x 990(H)mm
Primary detector PVT plastic scintillator (high speed pollution test)
Secondary Detector NaI(Tl) 4 litter (background variability measurement and Cs-137/ Co-60 concentration ratio monitoring)
    Energy Range -
    Dose Range -
    Features
    • The soil carried to conveyor is measured for the time to short (about 30 seconds) and more polluted soil is processed
    • Automatically converted to precision measurement mode when measured above deregulation level

    System Features (precision measurement mode)

    Contents Description
Primary detector NaI(Tl) 4 litter (nuclide analysis and quantitative assessment )
Secondary Detector PVT plastic scintillator (monitoring of detection efficiency changes in temperature/humidity changes)
    Energy Range -
    Dose Range -
    Features
    • Although NaI(Tl) has a large variation in detection efficiency according to temperature change, since there is little PVT detector, the total coefficient ratio of NaI and PVT detector has a constant relationship with temperature. → Pre-detection of measurement quality degradation due to temperature changes, so that it can prevent measurement quality degradation through detector recorrection or temperature control.
    • Measurement is required for longer periods of time than for general measurements to satisfy deregulation concentrations
    • For efficient operation of detection system, two measurement speeds can be set according to the level of contamination. → Deregulation concentration abnormality~ less than 10 times: low speed(about 200 seconds) → more than 10 times: medium speed (about 130 seconds)
    • Industrial PC control (touch panel type)
